We were already backed up with need-to-get-to material (court hearings, telephone conversations, permitting processes, advertisements, Indiana matters&#8211; and more). But we learned and experienced so much at our first Pipeline Safety Trust conference that now we&#8217;re really in the woods. It&#8217;s going to take us a while to sort through our notes and say all that we&#8217;ve got to say. Which means, of course: a new series!<\/p>\n<p>In lieu of a first entry in that series (coming up, we hope, right quick), here&#8217;s a quick rundown of some (not all) of the highlights of our conference experience (in random order):<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/safetycompass.wordpress.com\/2012\/11\/09\/pipeline-safety-trust-but-verify\/\" target=\"_blank\">Mark Rosekind of the NTSB<\/a> reminding everyone of how Enbridge <a title=\"Tales and lessons from the NTSB report, Part 1\" href=\"http:\/\/grangehallpress.com\/Enbridgeblog\/2012\/08\/04\/tales-and-lessons-from-the-ntsb-report-part-1\/\" target=\"_blank\">ignored their own 10-minute rule<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.boldnebraska.org\/ben-gotschall\" target=\"_blank\">Ben Gotschall<\/a> (brilliant) on milk<\/li>\n<li>Kim Savage (cutting and wise) on minding your manners<\/li>\n<li>Beth Wallace (with aplomb) brooking no nonsense from TransCanada execs<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/switchboard.nrdc.org\/blogs\/aswift\/\" target=\"_blank\">Anthony Swift<\/a>\u00a0on rhetoric versus reality<\/li>\n<li>Legal confabulations (way out of my depth) with Sara Gosman and Rebecca Craven<\/li>\n<li>Sharing fried alligator with Mike Watza<\/li>\n<li>Hearing Glenn Archambault&#8217;s horrifying story over a stiff drink (the only way to endure that particular tale)<\/li>\n<li>Learning about whales&#8217; olfactory sense from an actual whale hunter, Rosemary Ahtuangaruak<\/li>\n<li>Gabe Scott reminding us that differences matter<\/li>\n<li>Deb Miller and Sue Connolly nearly exploding when Enbridge&#8217;s Denise Hamsher got defensive about Marshall<\/li>\n<li>Breakfast with fellow Hoosier native Nate Pavlovic<\/li>\n<li>Terrible Bourbon Street daiquiris with Mike O&#8217;Leary (and others)<\/li>\n<li>Carl Weimer with a face full of beignets<\/li>\n<li>Kim Savage&#8217;s (extraordinarily well-behaved) 9-year old son asking me, &#8220;Mr. Jeff, did you ever study chemistry?&#8221;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Oh boy, have we got things to write about!
