At a moment in time when almost everybody in the U.S. and Canada recognizes the need for heightened\u00a0scrutiny of pipeline operators&#8211; especially <a href=\"http:\/\/www.politico.com\/story\/2015\/04\/the-little-pipeline-agency-that-couldnt-117147.html\" target=\"_blank\">given the failures of our federal regulators<\/a>&#8212; Michigan Representative <a href=\"http:\/\/gophouse.org\/representatives\/southeast\/heise\/\" target=\"_blank\">Kurt Heise of Plymouth<\/a> has <a href=\"http:\/\/www.legislature.mi.gov\/(S(l3dtfgvqjklolviiebleigbu))\/mileg.aspx?page=getObject&amp;objectName=2015-HB-4540\" target=\"_blank\">introduced legislation<\/a> designed to allow pipeline operators to escape even more scrutiny. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.freep.com\/story\/news\/local\/michigan\/2015\/05\/07\/oil-gas-pipelines-freedom-information-foia-exempt\/70923006\/\" target=\"_blank\">Keith Matheny of the Free Press has the story<\/a>. It&#8217;s as if Kurt Heise has never even heard of the Marshall spill. Either that or he&#8217;s just a gutless shill for the oil and gas companies. <a title=\"Breaking News: Upton Betrays Michigan\" href=\"http:\/\/grangehallpress.com\/Enbridgeblog\/2013\/09\/26\/breaking-news-upton-betrays-michigan\/\" target=\"_blank\">Reminds us of some others<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>If Heise is in your district, please\u00a0contact him and express your extreme displeasure at his willingness to do the bidding of the company responsible for the most expensive inland oil spill in U.S. history&#8211; not to mention his\u00a0shameful attempt to play us all for chumps and pass it\u00a0off\u00a0as\u00a0as a matter of &#8220;national security&#8221; (his contact info is below). That line is total b.s. and everybody knows it. Also, you might send him a copy of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ntsb.gov\/investigations\/AccidentReports\/Reports\/PAR1201.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">NTSB report on the Marshall spill<\/a> as well.
