We hope you’re sitting down for this one. Unfortunately, some people in Arkansas are learning a horrible lesson about what happens when a pipeline carrying tar sands oil fails. This is a major reason why we do what we do here at the blog–which isn’t half as much as what our wonderful, vigilant, hardworking friends at the Pipeline Safety Trust do. Their work is vital.

Thomas Friedman recently received a great deal of attention for an article he wrote about why the Obama Administration should turn down the Keystone pipeline. I immediately sent him an email asking him to please come to Michigan and write an article about Enbridge. I would like to suggest that readers/members of the Line 6B blog begin a concerted campaign to convince Friedman to visit and write an article about Enbridge’s bad behavior over recent years. This could bring international notice to our struggles.

Of course, for almost a year now, we have been writing (repeatedly) to every local, state, and national news outlet, program, journalist, and columnist we can think of to try and get some national attention to what’s been happening down here. We’ve had a little– but only a little– success.
